The South Korea Companion Animal Healthcare Market is expanding as pet ownership increases and owners place greater emphasis on preventive care, diagnostics, nutrition, therapeutics, and veterinary services. Government data indicate that 29.2% of households in South Korea were raising companion animals in 2025, while average monthly spending per animal reached about KRW 121,000, including significant expenditure on veterinary care.
Rising Pet Ownership Drives Healthcare Demand
The growing number of households with dogs and cats is creating a larger customer base for veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, diagnostics providers, pharmaceutical companies, and pet health product manufacturers. South Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs reported that pet-owning households increased from 3.64 million in 2012 to 6.02 million in 2022.
This expansion is accompanied by increasing awareness of preventive healthcare and longer pet lifespans. Veterinary research in South Korea is also increasingly examining age-specific disease patterns to support more tailored health examinations for companion dogs and cats.
