The same complaint we've had when it comes to Madden NFL 23 along with NBA 2K23: despite how many of us hate the way they tilt the playing field in favor of whoever pays the most, so many people are playing and spending money on it that just keeps doubling down on it, instead of the balanced and fair models we prefer.
FIFA 22 promises the next technology in virtual football, and , while it's not re-inventing the ball it does make the attacking and defensive gameplay gains moment-to-moment fluidity. There are some visual and goalkeeping errors aside, this year's FIFA remains among the most refined and enjoyable multiplayer sports games available on the market. New additions across Career Mode and Volta Football make FIFA's main modes more fun to play.
Microtransactions remain a major issue however small, incremental changes and the power of modern-gen consoles can make FIFA 22 feel like a worthwhile upgrade without needing anything groundbreaking or even awe-inspiring from EA's side. -- Jordan Oloman, September 27, 2021
Player Career features a revolutionary persona system that lets you use the most dramatic air quotes, pretend to be your chosen footballer. For me, this amounted to receiving 25 'Maverick Points' for purchasing a 'High-end Hybrid Mattress' for a Serbian striker in the K-League, so you can imagine the amount of time I spent with the system.
You're now able to choose the real manager (or Ted Lasso, however real you consider him to actually be) to play as a Manager Career as well, but except for cosplay as Jason Sudekis' mute or dress Eddie Howe in a lovely sweater vest, there's little to do but gawp at the awkward cutscenes. The time that was spent to import AFC Richmond for its brief novelty might have be better utilized, like implementing Women's Club Football into Career Mode, but that's still not in the game. This is a shame since the women's game is such an excellent example of potential of EA's HyperMotion motion capture technology. It offers authentic motion-capture animations that ramp up the immersive tension.
Naturally, still has the capacity to be absolutely frustrating. Goalkeepers sometimes collapse in a heap rather than trying to save a shot and there are few situations more tedious than matched with some dweeb on Seasons who seems more focused on doing endlessly complicated tricks and stepovers than actually playing football.
